    Asbestos Engine

    # 4204340000
    $6.99
Children will love using this smart little replica engine to transport wagons around the railway! The magnetic coupling makes it easy to link with other vehicles, and it is compatible with any wooden railway system.  History Asbestos dates back to 1909. She is a 28 ton engine built by Hawthorn Leslie. She started work at Washington Chemical Company in County Durham. In 1933 she transferred to Turner Newhall, Trafford Park, Manchester and was named Asbestos after their main product. She worked there until June 1968 when she was donated to the Railway Preservation Society, Chasewater, now Chasewater railway. Asbestos has regularly steamed at Chasewater over the years and celebrated her 100th birthday in 2009. A new boiler early in the 21st century means she should steam for many years to come. The original Asbestos can be seen at Chasewater Railway, Chasewater Country Park, Pool Road, Staffs. Ws8 7NL England. T: +44(0) 1543 452 623 W: www.chasewaterrailway.co.uk
